Make Tracks to the Skamania County Fair
August 15th to 19th, 2007
Skamania County Fair Grounds
Stevenson, WA 98648

The Skamania County Fair harkens to simpler times.  A time when neighbors took time to talk, standing together on the street corner on summer evenings discussing the day’s happenings.  For Skamania County, the County Fair is a once a year, not to be missed, community gathering.  The last free county fair in Washington, from August 15th to 19th  families gather to celebrate the joys of living in the country and the joys of living in a small community.

While many communities lose their rural roots as they grow and urbanize, Skamania County carefully retained the history and traditions of the past.  Each year, over 400 local 4-H members and another 100 local youth participate in livestock projects for judging.  The fair ground barns fill with beef, sheep goats, chickens, bunnies and such.  Fair Judges award ribbons in over 120 categories and determine a Champion and Grand Champion in each major exhibition group.

While many focus on the youth, the older folks receive a moment in the sun, too.  Over 4500 individual entries fill the Fair Exhibition Hall, the Grange Hall and Rock Creek Center.  Everything from quilts to jams, from paintings to photography vie for prizes with ribbons awarded in over 125 categories.

Not content with the simple joys of country life, the fair hosts a midway of rides and carnival games of various skill.  Bumper cars, Ferris wheel, spinning teacups attract young and old alike.

In the Fair Grounds center courtyard, a stage hosts bands through out the afternoon and into the evening.  Aspiring musicians move front and center during the intervening open mic sessions.  A food court with everything from satay to curly fries surrounds the courtyard providing the finest in fair fare to those resting and enjoying the music.

The Skamania County Fair is country living at it’s best.  Simple.  Inclusive.  Community oriented.  Family friendly.  Folks gather to show what they’ve accomplished in the last year and wander through the displays learning what their neighbors accomplished.  It’s about the people, about the community.

Join us in the traditional Skamania County Fair.  From bunnies to jam, five days of good times.  Old time times.
